Autumn half term update

It's been a busy start to the year with the year with the Claverdon Fun Run kicking off the fundraising in style! And with a busy calendar to see out 2024 there's plenty more activities to get involved in. As usual these couldn't happen without you all so thank you to everyone who volunteers, organises and attends these events and activities. We are always looking for volunteers for various events so please drop us a message if you can spare some time to get involved.

Thank you everyone - and have a lovely week!

What we've been up to this half term...

The first Claverdon Fun Run 2024 (in recent times!) took place

Thank you to all those who participated in the Claverdon Fun Run – runners, volunteers and parent taxi services! The full photo gallery will be available shortly. We hope everyone had a great time and look forward to planning an even bigger and better event next time!

The school garden volunteer team undertook some Autumn garden maintenance

Thank you to Paul, Abbie and Amy who have spent many hours tending to the planting areas at school. There is a continuing plan to maintain this space, with seasonal gardening days to keep the area looking nice. Please do get in touch if you are interested in joining the gardening group - planned maintenance dates for Spring will be shared later in the year.

Stikins name labels samples arrived

Hopefully those that ordered free Stikins samples have received them from school. A reminder if ordering more to use our unique code 4537 to earn the school commission!

The 100 Club raised £79 for school

Welcome to the new members of The 100 club who have joined this year. There have been 2 draws so far this school year totalling £79 in prize winnings and £79 in funds to school. Remember you can join The 100 club online at anytime - it's just £2 each month to play!

The first Bag2School collection of the year

Bag2School earned £37 this term. We had a great collection weight but unfortunately the slightly lower earnings reflects the current market value of second hand clothing which has dropped drastically in recent years.

Cauliflower Cards designs came home

Some lovely creations were sent back to Cauliflower cards for them to work their magic! This has raised £317 commission for school so thank you for all your orders! Items will be delivered to school at the beginning of December. Thank you Flora for organising both the Bag2School collections and Cauliflower Cards orders.

The first cake sale of the year take place today

A big thank you to Cheryl for organising, and Year 5 and 6 parents for volunteering to help and donating baked goods. We'll update you on earnings next newsletter.

Decarbonising our school

Just before summer a small team worked together to put a bid forward for a grant to pay for a “decarbonisation plan”. This is the first step in looking at what we can do at school to make our building more sustainable for the future – and also reduce the bills – freeing up some of that money to support our children. We are delighted to announce that our bid was successful! During the summer we had a visit from Barker Associates who have put this plan together. This plan is not only important for understanding the changes we need to make, but it also opens up opportunities for further grants to fund this work.

Solar power update

In previous newsletters we introduced a joint project between Claverdon Primary School and Friends of Claverdon to bring solar power to our school, and embark on a journey to reduce energy costs and becoming more sustainable. Applications for grants to support this have continued and we are currently waiting for the outcome of our recent Npower application.

Projects supported by your fundraising this half term

New RE resources

We were delighted to support Mrs White in purchasing a new set of RE resources to be used across the school, with a range of resources now available to the teachers and children across different faiths. Thank you Mrs White for promoting faith and diversity in our school!

School garden borders

As part of the ongoing project to maintain the school garden, and crucially make it easy to maintain across the seasons, budget was made available to the gardening team for border edging, seeds and plants. We can't wait to see how it changes throughout the seasons and spotting wildlife outside our school!

Things coming up next half term...

  • Friends of Claverdon Autumn School Disco on Thursday 14th November - tickets are now available to buy online

  • Get ready for Christmas Jumper Day with our Christmas Jumper Sale

  • Friends of Claverdon Christmas Gift Shop on Friday 6th December

  • Watch this space for more information on other Christmas events and activities!

  • Second hand uniform is moving online! We've been sorting and cataloguing stock and we are hoping that being able to purchase online will make the process easier for everyone. We should be ready to go live with this in a couple of weeks.

Finally, in the run up to Christmas don't forget...

Easyfundraising partners with lots of online stores (ones you will recognise!) who will donate money to Friends of Claverdon Primary School when you shop with them – at no additional charge to you. These brands (eg The Train Line, Sports Direct, Amazon, Etsy…) pay commission to Easyfundraising – which is turned into a donation. You can sign via the link below, and your browser will recognise shops that will donate automatically! During September a handful of supporters raised £11 but with more people signed up this amount could easily double each month!
